The NERCC Vision

The Northeast Regional Corrections Center promotes behavioral change and recidivism reduction through the use of evidence based practices and targeted interventions. All programming offered at NERCC is trauma informed and trauma responsive.

Through the integration of local community organizations, residents have the opportunity to complete a range of programs based on individual needs and level of risk to reoffend.

 

Programming includes:

  • Substance Use Disorder treatment (Intensive Outpatient treatment)

  • Treatment for men with co-occurring disorders (Mental Health & Recovery Program)

  • The Duluth Model Domestic Abuse Intervention Program (DAIP)

  • Treatment for Men who Sexually Abused

  • Cognitive Based programming (Decision Points; Cognitive Self-Change)

  • Educational services, including GED preparation and testing

  • Psychiatry and psychological therapy services

  • Parenting classes

  • Preparation for housing; rental classes

  • Career exploration and job seeking / job keeping classes, including information and contacts for union apprentice programs and assistance with applying for post-secondary education

  • Cultural enrichment programming

Each resident is assigned a caseworker who assists with developing an individualized treatment and programming plan within the facility as well as a plan for coordinating continued care for release to the community.

The philosophy at NERCC is to increase the capacity of the resident to make the changes necessary to become a productive member of the community and avoid further contact with the criminal justice system. We invest in NERCC residents because they are members of our community and will be returning to the community.

NERCC offers a wide range of opportunities for justice-involved men in the facility to gain life-long skills and job related skills. 

 

The men have the opportunity to work in the following capacities:

  • building maintenance

  • farm equipment maintenance

  • greenhouse

  • care of livestock

  • gardening

  • meat processing (butcher certificate)

  • cook (Serv Safe certificate)

  • grounds care

  • carpentry shop
